Candidate for justice is indicted on forgery charge

Hilda Caceres, Municipal Judge was indicted in December of 2009 on charges of forgery. The indicted had remained sealed until January and reveals that four counts of forgery and three counts of tampering with a government record have been charged against the candidate for Hidalgo County Justice of the peace in the Delta area.

Supporters of the candidate claim that the indictment is politically motivated as it comes amid the coming election in March.

Lupe Trevino, Hidalgo County Sheriff stated that the investigation centers on a piece of real estate that Hilda Caceres shares with Nora Delgado. The real estate was used as collateral for a mortgage loan. The allegation against Caceres is that she forged Delgados name in front of a notary in order to obtain the mortgage loan on the property.

Caceres supporters who accompanied her to jail where she voluntarily surrendered herself to authorities say that Delgado is a supporter of Speedy Jackson the incumbent justice of the peace.

Caceres did not speak to reporters on the recommendation of her attorney, Joe Cisneros.

The indictment has seven counts and was filed on December 23 of 2009. It alleges that Caceres forged Delgado’s signature on May 14th on three separate documents which include the deed of trust, an assignment of leases and rents and an affidavit of identity. The documents were notarized by Sandra De Leon and Mary Ayala on the same day.

Caceres is also accused of passing on a forged signature of Delgado’s that authorized Caceres to sign for Delgado on the day of the closing.

Cain Caceres, Hilda Caceres ex-husband and the Elsa City Commissioner whose signature also appears on the deed of trust stated that his family assisted Delgardo finance a house next door to theirs and is also at the center of allegations. He stated that investigators in the case have yet to interview Hilda in regard to their investigation prior to submitting the indictment.
